Teaching Assistants - Mrs Nikaljie (Reception and year one), Miss Newsome (Nursery) and Miss Farmer (Nursery)

Welcome to Our Reception and Year One class!

Well... Spring 2 went so fast...But, we all had a blast! We really enjoyed learning all about Minibeasts in our "Into The Woods" topic. Please see our Class Dojo Page for all our photos! There's so many to share.

Our new topic is 'Animals around the World.' This topic covers all animals from big to small! We will learn about the Zoo, animals in the jungle and at the end of the term we'll look at dinosaurs (we can't wait!)

In English, we will be finishing our book from last term - 'The Curious Case of the Missing Mammoth.' We will then move onto 'Toys in Space.' We will be designing our own 'Wanted' posters and planning and writing our own story.

In Drawing Club, we will be watching the animation Mr Benn the Zookeeper for week one.

Week 2 : Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak

Week 3 : Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell

Week 4: The Tiger Who Came for Tea by Judith Kerr

Week 5: Goldilocks and Just One Bear

Our new topic in R.E is all about good news... How everyone has good news to tell and the ways in which we can tell it. We will learn about Pentecost and write our own Prayers.

Our Geography topic this term is all about China, Shanghai in particular. We will learn the 7 continents, locate China on a map, and compare the physical and human factors to those of Macclesfield.

In Art we will be making animal sculptures from clay.

Please see our new curriculum jigsaw and our new homework menu below:

If you have any questions please just ask, email or message me on Class Dojo.

Let's have another great half term!

Miss Kalnins

Dates for your diary:

Parents evening: Tuesday 16th April

Parents evening: Thursday 25th April

Phonics is taught every day and children are regularly assessed and re-grouped according to their sound knowledge, accuracy and fluency in reading.

Our reception children know all our single letter sounds and we will continue to review these every day.

Our year one children will be ready to move into their new groups for set 2 and 3 sounds.

Homework will be changed each term. There will be a variety of simple project based tasks for you to choose from. Some will take less time than others, so it will be your choice as to when you choose to do the activities. We usually expect one per week but you can choose to do as many as you like. The children love to bring in their creations to share with the class. Homework can be sent through our class email or you can attach a photo on class Dojo.

Here is our new homework list for our Spring 2 term. This has been sent home and is on Class Dojo.

Once your child can blend words independently, they will receive a 'blending book' to read at home every day. Once your child can read simple sentences, they will bring home a reading book which should be read at home at least 3 times a week. This will ensure your child gains more confidence and becomes more fluent in their reading.

Please ensure your child has a full P.E kit in school. They will need a black pair of shorts, plain black joggers or leggings, a plain white t-shirt and pumps/trainers. All items will need their name clearly written on them. This is extremely helpful when the children are dressing and undressing for P.E.
