Robins (Nursery/Reception) - Miss Kalnins, Miss Farmer and Miss Newsome
Welcome to our class page. We are the Robins.
We are now a mixed nursery and reception class. We are so excited to open our doors to our new children on Monday 5th January 2026.
Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful Christmas.
Our topic this half term is Transport

In Religious Education, we are beginning our new topic of 'Galilee to Jerusalem'. Our focus question is - What does the church say about Jesus’ life? We will be doing lots of lovely creative activities, like sharing bread, making stained-glass windows and crowns for Epiphany. We will be learning about the story ‘Feeding the 5000' and how we feel when we are 'welcomed'. We will be talking lots about treating others’ the way we want to be treated.
In English, we will begin with the story 'A Hundred Decker Bus'. We will be learning lots of new vocabulary, mark making, forming letters, blending sounds into words and re-telling the story using our own story maps.
In Phonics, we will continue our carpet sessions where we will be focusing on blending CVC and CVCC words. Nursery will begin Phase 1 phonics.
In Drawing Club, we will be reading many transport books such as; 'The Train Ride', 'Please don't chat to the bus driver' and 'Room on the Broom'. We will be drawing characters, settings and using lots of joy and imagination to come up with our own fantastic illustrations!
In Maths, we will be focusing on the composition of 1-8. We will be recognising and representing numbers too. Nursery will be focusing on learning number names and joining in counting forwards and backwards.
In our 'Understanding the World' lessons we will be learning and exploring how things work and what forces can be felt. We will be looking at both old and new vehicles and how they support us in our community.
In Expressive arts, we will be doing many activities, such as role play and music and movement. We will be getting messy exploring with lots of paint and other materials. We will be focusing on sharing resources and communication and language through our masterpieces!
Please make sure you are all checking Class Dojo when you can - there will be weekly photos and messages.
If you need to get in touch or you have any further questions please come and see us on the door, email or message us on Class Dojo.
Let's have a wonderful first half term together with our new Nursery children.

Phonics
Phonics is taught every day and children are regularly assessed and re-grouped according to their sound knowledge, accuracy and fluency in reading.
Reading
Once your child can blend words independently, they will receive a 'blending book' to read at home every day. Once your child can read simple sentences, they will bring home a reading book which should be read at home at least 3 times a week. This will ensure your child gains more confidence and becomes more fluent in their reading.
P.E is on Tuesdays
Please ensure your child has a full P.E kit in school. They will need a black pair of shorts, plain black joggers or leggings, a plain white t-shirt and pumps/trainers. All items will need their name clearly written on them. This is extremely helpful when the children are dressing and undressing for P.E.
