Owls (Y3/4) - Miss Bailey and Mrs Boyle

Class Teacher - Miss Bailey
Teaching assistant - Mrs Boyle
Welcome back to a new half-term I hope you all had a restful break.
See below for an insight into our learning this half-term.
Curriculum
In English, we will develop our writing skills through our class book 'Leon and the Place Between' by Angela McAllister. Our writing outcome will be to to write Leon’s secret diary about what really happened in ‘the place between’, including conversation between Leon and the boy applying Gateway and Mastery keys taught throughout the unit.
In Maths, our focus is addition and subtraction.
In Geography, we will be working to answer the question - What were the importance of rivers to the earliest settlements in the U.K. and the 4 ancient civilizations of the world?
In History, we will be working to answer the question - What did the first civilisations have in common and what were their achievements?
In Science, children learn that forces are pushes and pulls that can make objects move, speed up, slow down, or stop. We will explore how different surfaces affect movement and discover that while some forces need contact, magnetic forces can act at a distance. We will investigate how magnets attract and repel, identify magnetic materials, and learn about magnetic poles. Through practical activities, we will develop enquiry skills such as observing, measuring, recording results, and drawing conclusions.
In RE, our topic is 'Creation and Covenant'. We will be learning about God’s covenant with Abraham as the foundation of faith in both Judaism and Christianity. We will explore the story of Abraham - his call, God’s promises, and his acts of faith and obedience - and learn about the importance of covenant as a sacred promise between God and his people. We will consider how Abraham’s faith, hope, and love in God guided his decisions and reflect on how these virtues can be lived out in their own lives. The unit also introduces traditional prayers of faith and explores how trust in God is shown through prayer and action.
