MFL - Spanish

Whole School Curriculum Intent

To inspire and nurture our learners to feel empowered and able to become responsible citizens in the community and wider world, whilst motivating them to aspire and achieve the highest standards.

MFL (Modern Foreign Languages) Curriculum Intent

Christ the King Catholic and Church of England Primary School’s aim is that all pupils will develop a genuine interest and positive curiosity about foreign languages, predominantly Spanish. Learning a second language will offer pupils the opportunity to explore relationships between language and identity, develop a deeper understanding of other cultures and the world around them with a better awareness of self, key individuals and cultural differences. Our intention is that pupils will feel able and encouraged to continue studying languages beyond the primary phase and ultimately be working towards becoming life-long language learners.

Subject Leader's Introduction

Hi, my name is Mrs Leigh and I am proud to be MFL lead. This is my first year at Christ the King. Having lived in other countries and absorbing myself in their language and culture, I am passionate about modern foreign languages and the future opportunities that learning another language can offer our children.

Learning a language opens up new possibilities of communication and offers a window into other cultures, creating an attitude of tolerance and respect in our students. Furthermore, learning another language supports the learning of English.
